The Podoll Family: Two days in Barcelona

We only had two days in Barcelona. After a late first night out we decided that rather than walk 7 already tired kids ragged, we'd splurge and take the tour bus and try and get off for a few sights. It turned out well -- the bus gave us needed breaks between two wonderful Gaudi works. Our first stop was at La Segrada Familia. Samantha loved the trip up (by elevator) to the top of one of the tall towers and the long walk down the beautiful snail curved stone staircase. Heather particularly loved the huge Park Guel and its wonderful (sometimes) quiet spaces all with Gaudi's unique lines and flair. After visiting a few old cathedrals in France, i think we were all struck by how the new of Gaudi could be just as inspired/inspiring as a centuries old building.

Day 2 on Barcelona was shorter -- we visited the Cathedral of Santa Eulalia -- yet another huge sight for worship from the 1400's. We wandered the streets; Claire found a beautiful blue scarf; we ate our second helping of amazing gelato (as good as what we found in Italy -- and what kept the kids going!); and we stopped into an organic neighborhood store to stock up on treats for the drive to Montserrat.
